This week has been full of sunshine and beautiful weather that screams Join Me Outdoors, so that is just what we did. We have had a fantastic week full of long walks, play-dates, and trips to the park.
Today we headed to one of our favorite local parks, where Collin can run, climb, and slide. He was incredibly intrigued by the other kids sliding down a super long, tunnel slide and decided to conquer it himself (with the help of mom of course). He started out delighted, until we made our way to the end and he realized the slide was entirely too long, a little dark, loud and very intimidating, but it didn't take long to regroup and "hop" back on the play equipment.
After plenty of wiggle time, we went for a nice walk with Tucker, and some of our mommy friends, savored the beautiful views, and enjoyed a yummy latte, ..even Collin appreciated coffee time (don't worry, mommy finished the latte before he could get to it..and it's decaf ;) )
--During our down time at home, Collin has realized that he thoroughly enjoys "Chore" time. He is a tremendous help, much like Tucker when it comes to household tasks.
One of his absolute favorite chores is laundry time. He has learned how to open the dresser drawers and takes as much clothing as he can out of the drawers, tosses them to the floor, and then selectively carries a few articles of clothing to me with a smug little grin as if to say " see mom, I am a GREAT help!"
He has also discovered the joys of sweeping and cries desperately when he can't help push the broom or smear the piles of dirt on the floor. And he loves sneaking into the bathrooms, and without delay unrolls as much of the toilet paper as he can before he's caught. He runs around the house giggling in orneriness leaving a paper trial behind him. My favorite is when he knows he's going to be caught. He believes he's being sneaking, and tries to hide in the corner of our entryway as he wiggles his way between the wall and the bench. He believes if he can crouch down low enough he won't be seen ;)
Which reminds me of one of his other joys of household responsibilities. He enjoys taking all of daddy's shoes out of our shoe cabinet, tries them on, and then parades around the house like a majestic King...never mind mommy and daddy's fetish with wearing shoes indoors.
Oh the joys of household chores! If there is one thing I have learned as a mother it is that my idea of clean no longer exists, but the joys of watching Collin transition chore time into childhood fun and witness his innocent laughter far out weighs the satisfaction of a clean home. So next time you visit, just remember to check your expectations of "clean" at the front door!
