We invited an almost 2 year old neighbor boy, Will, over to play. Will recently became a big brother to not one, but TWO little siblings, twins! Needless to say mom and dad are very busy and cherish a little extra help. Today was a trial run to see if Will can start coming over on a regular basis to help give mom and dad a break.
As mom quietly snuck out, Will settled into the back yard to play with some new toys and explore unfamiliar territory. He was having a GREAT time until I made a HUGE ROOKIE MISTAKE.
I mentioned the word "mommy".
I could see the wheels in Will's head begin to turn, and I thought "self, this is not going to be good."
Will quickly ran back inside calling out for his mom, and began banging on the front door screaming, begging for his mom. Tears rolled down his cheeks and he began to hyperventilate.
Collin stood frozen in his tracks at the sight of such a meltdown and Tucker hovered in the corner of the room. My "Oh S@#%T" meter was escalating.
Will continued to hyperventilate, completely inconsolable and then with one big hiccup, out came all of Will's breakfast. All over his shirt, his shoes, the floor, up the wall, everywhere. With the sight of breakfast laying on his shoes (he adores his shoes), the breakdown escalated as he wailed on the floor.
Tucker decided he better make himself useful and quickly made his way over to provide aid by licking up Will's left over breakfast. I quickly corralled Tucker, cleaned up the mess and finally with a few affectionate hugs, and introduction to some cool new toys, Will made himself comfortable again.
Meanwhile my sweet little angel stood still quietly in the corner, never making a fuss at the lack of attention he was receiving and upon Will's return to happy toddler-hood, Collin was more than happy to share (a trait he was short of yesterday) his toys.
The boys ended up having a wonderful time together, and we hope for more HAPPY visits from Will in the future.
