Every year we escape the rain of Western Washington and head central to the snowy magical town of Leavenworth...only this year the snow was no where to be found, but the holiday cheer, and the magic of Christmas were still just as wonderful as ever!
We arrived in Leavenworth after a peaceful and beautiful ride through the mountain pass. The town was glistening with the spirit of Christmas and hundreds of men, women and children waiting to participate in the festival Christmas tree lighting. As we waited for the holiday event to take place the boys where lucky enough to greet Santa, meet Rudolph, and even Frosty the snow man. They loved the characters of Christmas and even better the opportunity to stretch their legs out in the town hall and wiggle away some of their stored up energy.
At dusk the town Brier calls everyone to the central gazebo and collectively we all say prayer and take a moment to pause and reflect on the real MAGIC of the holiday season and the BLESSINGS that Christ Jesus has given us.
And then the ceremonies begin...the Christmas carolers fill the outdoors with harmonious
song, Santa, Rudolf and all of the town helpers gather in the street. We all count down from ten, and the holiday lights are turned on and the town becomes even more magical.
After the kids had enough of the outdoors and their fill of Santa, we made our way back down the mountain. It was such a peaceful and wonderful day spent together with our friends.
...Only suddenly life became a little less peaceful when on our way down the mountain Rudolph appeared out of no where, his nose not a glow, and he nearly became a hood ornament on our poor friends SUV.
The car came to a screeching halt and we all paused for a moment as our hearts stopped racing, realizing how lucky Rudolf was to be alive (and our precious little ones left unharmed) and then we carried on down the mountain. Life was again peaceful, the car filled with chatter, until moments later when JD became very upset and projectile vomit cascaded from his mouth and pooled in his car seat, followed by 2 fussy babies, another episode of vomit, and one super drenched Collin after he pulled an entire 16 ounces of water onto his lap.
Life finally calmed down and the spirit of Christmas remained. We all made it home safely and snuggled up in our beds.
